SLOPE STABILISATION, FORT ANNE, DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN

Client: Taylor Woodrow

Value: £330,000

The Project

The contract was to design and install slope stabilisation to an embankment alongside a new access road to the site.

The ground conditions consisted of sands and gravels overlaying boulder clay.

The design was carried out in house using the latest computer systems.

As the excavation proceeded holes for the nails were drilled using ODS and DTH techniques with air flush. A Casagrande C6 and Casagrande C7 drill rigs were used.

Single piece GRP nails up to nine metres long were grouted in.

As the work progressed the slope was temporarily supported by wire mesh and sealed with a grout spray.

Once the full excavation was completed and all the nails installed 150 mm shotcrete was applied. This is then clad in masonry using local stone.

Despite difficulties experienced when an unforeseen buried wall was exposed the work was completed ahead of programme and on budget
